Solve Me Mobiles

Picture
Overview
Solve Me Mobiles are puzzles designed from the concept of a hanging mobile made of shapes, strings, and beams. With similarity to the structure of a real mobile, the shapes carry weight. Therefore, these puzzles consist of finding the weight of the shapes in order to keep the mobile balanced and equal. These puzzles help students with concepts of pre-algebra and algebra as they develop their own logic for algebraic reasoning.

How-To Video
Mathematical Concepts
Solve Me Mobiles focus on the following mathematical concepts:
  • Algebraic equations
  • Solving for unknown values

Solve Me Mobiles consist of three levels of puzzles. It is beneficial to start with the beginning level puzzles to gain a basic understanding for the game. After a strong foundation has been built, feel free to choose an appropriate range of puzzles for your students. The levels include Explorer, Puzzler and Master. As the puzzles and levels progress, the problem solving becomes more complex with more shapes to resemble more unknowns and more beams to resemble more algebraic equations.
Connection to the Math Practice Standards
These puzzles support the following mathematical habits of mind:
  • Logical reasoning
