Get Started!

The Chasing Einstein Challenge is a 9-week activity for 3rd-12th grade students designed to help them become creative and persistent problem solvers. The challenge is designed around the Standards for Mathematical Practice. The goal is to help teachers learn more about the Standards for Mathematical Practice and to help students become persistent and creative problem solvers that have a positive attitude about mathematics. This is a FREE activity for you and your students.

There are two options for participating in the Chasing Einstein Challenge. The first option involves collaborating with Dr. Kevin Smith and the second option involves using the resources on your own. Read details below to get started with either of these options.

Option 1

Collaborate with Dr. Smith
Partner with Dr. Smith and his K-8 Math Methods students at Dakota State University! Your students will engage in a 9-week program, dedicating one class period each week to watching a short video explaining math challenges and Standards for Mathematical Practice, completing those challenges, and reflecting on their learning. We can only accommodate a limited number of classrooms each semester, so please contact us if you're interested.

Yes! I want in.

Option 2

On Your Own
You can bring the Chasing Einstein Challenge to your classroom by using the materials available on this website. We've developed everything you need to facilitate it on your own: a series of instructional videos, carefully selected weekly math challenges, and a comprehensive "how-to" guide. If you're interested, your first step should be to review the How-To Guide.

Yes! Show me the guide.
