The Chasing Einstein Challenge is a 9-week activity for 3rd-12th grade students designed to help them become creative and persistent problem solvers. The challenge is designed around the Standards for Mathematical Practice. The goal is to help teachers learn more about the Standards for Mathematical Practice and to help students become persistent and creative problem solvers that have a positive attitude about mathematics. This is a FREE activity for you and your students.

There are two options for participating in the Chasing Einstein Challenge. The first option involves collaborating with Dr. Kevin Smith and the second option involves using the resources on your own. Read details below to get started with either of these options.

Option 1

Collaborate with Dr. Smith
This option involves collaborating with Dr. Smith and his K-8 Math Methods students at Dakota State University. Dr. Smith's students serve as math mentors to your students. Each week they create videos for your students on Flipgrid. Your students watch the videos, complete math challenges, and then reply to their DSU math mentor via Flipgrid. The activity takes approximately one class period per week for 9 weeks. We can only partner with a few classrooms each semester. If you are interested in this option, please contact us.

Option 2

On Your Own

This option involves  using the resources and "how to" guide available on this website to conduct your own Chasing Einstein Challenge in your classroom. We have created a series of videos, curated weekly math challenges, and created a "how to" guide to help you do this on your own. If you're interested in this option, start by looking at the How To guide.
